Subclass 186

The Subclass 186 visa, known as the Employer Nomination Scheme (ENS) visa, is a permanent residence visa for skilled workers who are nominated by an Australian employer. This visa is part of Australia’s skilled migration program and is designed to allow skilled workers to live and work permanently in Australia.

Streams:

Temporary Residence Transition (TRT) Stream:

    • For applicants who already hold a Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS) visa (Subclass 482) or a Temporary Work (Skilled) visa (Subclass 457).
    • The applicant must have worked for the same employer for at least 3 years in the nominated occupation while holding the TSS or 457 visa.
    • Allows the applicant to transition to permanent residency.

Direct Entry Stream:

    • For applicants who are nominated by an employer and do not meet the requirements of the TRT stream.
    • Applicants may apply directly from outside Australia or from within Australia if they do not qualify for the TRT stream.
    • Generally requires the applicant to have at least 3 years of relevant work experience and a positive skills assessment in their nominated occupation.

Labour Agreement Stream:

    • For applicants who are sponsored by an employer under a labour agreement with the Australian government.
    • The specific requirements and conditions vary depending on the terms of the agreement.

Eligibility Requirements:

The applicant must be nominated by an approved Australian employer for a position that is full-time and ongoing.

The applicant must have the necessary skills, qualifications, and work experience for the nominated occupation.

 

The applicant must meet the required level of English language proficiency.

Generally, applicants must be under 45 years of age at the time of application, with some exemptions available.

The applicant must meet health and character requirements.
